The Overlay and Modernization project for Lahore-Islamabad Motorway M-2 goes much beyond be repair and re-carpeting of the 16 year old road. Under the scope of work a massive Tree Plantation is also carried out under which 6 Lac trees are being planted in the green belts along the motorway. The campaign started with plantation of a tree by Director General. The existing plantation is quite haphazard being planted in haste with M-2 construction. Most of the trees were Eucalyptus which consumes excessive water – already a scarce commodity in the Barani area. Theme Parks and Picnic Areas are also being developed.
