Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, NI(M), HI(M) inaugurated TIP at Islamabad on 20 July 2022. Director General FWO briefed COAS about the design, structure, and functions of the institute. TIP is an initiative sponsored by FWO to promote tunneling technology in Pakistan. TIP carries the distinction of being the sixth such facility in the world and the first of its kind in Pakistan.

COAS lauded the initiative taken by FWO in promoting tunnel engineering in Pakistan. The event was also graced by E-in-C, Senior Army Officers, and Chairman Pakistan Engineering Council.
